The government has put the number of investor visas or 'golden visas' issued between 2013 and 2022 at 4,940, including visas for investors in capital, real estate and business projects, according to a government response to Más País MP Íñigo Errejón, in which 45% of these visas were issued to Chinese nationals, with a total of 2,263. The Executive has also highlighted the visas issued to Ukrainian citizens, who obtained 2.7% of the permits, with a total of 136. The so-called 'Golden Visa' refers to visas that grant a residence permit to foreign fortunes that buy a house worth 500,000 euros.

These permits were introduced under the government of Mariano Rajoy in 2013, through the law to support entrepreneurs and their internationalisation.The party led by Íñigo Errejón has repeatedly criticised this figure. In fact, it recently registered a bill to eliminate them, as it considers that the permits encourage "speculation" in housing prices in Spain.Más País's initiative would be similar to that undertaken by the Portuguese government, where it put an end to these visas as part of a shock plan to "combat property speculation", according to the Portuguese prime minister, the socialist António Costa. On the other hand, the government has also made a statement on a future Register of Ownerships, which it plans to set up before the end of 2023.

The government's intention was to submit this register to the Council of Ministers in December 2022 by means of a decree law that would transpose a European directive on the prevention of money laundering. However, a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union halted the Government's plans, after deciding that this Directive violated articles 7 and 8 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. However, the Executive has recalled that access to information on the beneficial ownership of legal persons is guaranteed by the possibility of consulting the Register of Beneficial Ownership (developed by the Spanish Association of Registrars of Property, Mercantile and Movable Property) and the database of beneficial ownership of the General Council of Notaries.
